Amateur Radio License Testing with ECART

ECART is excited to be able to administer occasional in-person amateur radio testing at West Seneca Christian School.

These tests are given through the ARRL VEC and are scheduled and accredited by them. All applicants will test on Chromebooks supplied by WSCS on the testing day.

The next scheduled test is Friday, December 5, 2025.

Please see the important steps below both prior to test day and on the test day itself.

Register for a FRN with the FCC using their CORES website. (Don't worry: There is no cost to register and this is almost the last time you'll see this much alphabet soup from us!) Just answer each of the FCC's questions the obvious ways. No tricks here!

Once you have your FRN ID number, click this link to register with the online testing service. Please be sure you have contacted Mr. Fry *BEFORE* registering online. You may register ahead of time or at the testing event itself.

On the test day, bring government-issued photo ID.

On the test day, bring $5 (or $15 if you are over 18) cash to pay for the exam.

When instructed to do so by the VEs (test proctors), click on this link to go to the online testing site. (The link will not be active until the test session begins.)

The VEs in the room will instruct you on how to begin testing.

If you pass the technician exam, wait for an email from the FCC (send to the address you used when you created the FRN above). Visit this link and browse to FRN Financial to pay the $35 fee to apply for your first call sign. If you pass the general or extra exam, you may begin using your new privileges immediately by appending either /AG or /AE to your current call sign until your new level is listed on the CORES website.

Those under age 18 who earn their technician license may have their testing fee reimbursed by the ARRL. Click this link for more information and to apply.
